New Zealand International WINE SHOW 2008
With 2273 entries, the 2008 New Zealand International Wine Show is far and
away the largest wine competition ever held in this country and is one of the largest wine
competitions in the Southern Hemisphere.
Following several excellent vintages, a host of top
quality wines were entered with the Judging Team, led by Larry
McKenna and Peter Cowley, awarding a total of 166 gold medals, 350 silver and 927 bronze
medals over three fantastic days.
There is excitement in every category and with so
many of the top wines being recent releases, wine lovers should be able to source these
wines for many months.

A Legend of New
Zealand Wine
Many people have played important roles
in making New Zealand wine the success that it now is. Each year the New Zealand
International Wine Show will honour the person that has been selected for his or her
outstanding contribution to New Zealand wine. To acknowledge that person, a special award
has been created and named in honour of a man who unquestionably has made one of the
greatest contributions to the New Zealand Wine Industry. The award will be known each year
as The George Fistonich Medal.

'Pick
the Trophies' Challenge
This year saw the continuation of the unique tasting
competition in association with the 2008 New Zealand
International Wine Show. A tasting was held in Auckland City at the Crowne
Plaza Hotel in Albert Street on the Wednesday 24th September and all of the gold medal
wines were available for the public to taste.
'The Challenge' was for people to try and pick at
least four of the wines that the judges have awarded the prestigious Trophies that would
be announced at the Awards Dinner on September 27th.
Twenty six people picked at least four of the
Trophies and a draw was made by Karen Fistonich at the Awards Dinner. Brooke
Robinson was the lucky winner of the two return tickets to fly to Adelaide with
five nights accommodation (Adelaide and/or Barossa Valley), a rental car for five days and
six V.I.P. visits to selected wineries.
