A
Legend of New Zealand Wine
Many people have played important roles in making
New Zealand wine the success that it now is. Each year the New Zealand International Wine
Show will honour the person that has been selected for his or her outstanding contribution
to New Zealand wine. To acknowledge that person, a special award has been created and
named in honour of a man who unquestionably has made one of the greatest contributions to
the New Zealand Wine Industry. The award will be known each year as The George
Fistonich Medal.
The 2007 recipient of the George Fistonich Medal is
Terry Dunleavy, MBE, FWINZ. More .....

'Pick
the Trophies' Challenge
This year saw the introduction of a unique
tasting competition in association with the 2007 New Zealand
International Wine Show. A tasting was held in Auckland City at the Centra
Hotel in Albert Street on the Tuesday 25th September and all of the gold medal wines were
available for the public to taste.
'The Challenge' was for people to try and pick the
wines that the judges have awarded the prestigious Trophies. The Trophies are announced at
the Awards Dinner at the fabulous Sky City Convention Centre on September 29th.
With five people tying for the most number of
Trophies picked, a draw was made by Bob Campbell MW at the Awards Dinner. Richard
Lockhart was the lucky winner of the two return tickets to fly to Adelaide with
five nights accommodation (Adelaide and/or Barossa Valley), a rental car for five days and
six V.I.P. visits to selected wineries.
